About Monica

Monica is a native Angeleno and a licensed marriage and family therapist with a master’s degree in psychology from Phillips Graduate Institute.

She has a certification in clinical hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and she’s fully trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing- a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.)

Monica supervised masters degree students and associates at Phillips Graduate Institute.  That means she helped them to develop their counseling skills as they worked toward becoming licensed marriage and family therapists themselves.

Monica has a deep interest in the pain and disorientation of trauma; she was a Rape Crisis Advocate at Valley Trauma Center in Van Nuys, and served as a volunteer therapist with The Soldiers Project.  She has counseled children at Lanai Road Elementary School in Encino and Woodlake Ave. Elementary School in Woodland Hills. She has guided groups for parents and senior citizens. Monica serves the State of California as a Subject Matter Expert in both marriage and family therapy and clinical counseling.

Before pursuing her interest in psychology, Monica was a writer at KNX Newsradio for nearly 30 years, and won awards for news and editorial writing as well as for writing and producing public service announcements. She understands creativity, deadlines and living with corporate structure.
